Placement of PEG (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy tube) is a procedure in which a tube is passed from the stomach through the skin for delivering nutrition or medications in patients who are unable to otherwise ingest adequate oral nutrition. A flexible, lighted tube is passed from the mouth into the stomach to find a good location for the tube. Then a small incision is made at the skin, and the tube is passed through. This procedure has to be done at the hospital, but patients can often go home immediately after the procedure.
